About Teenvestor

The goals of this website are to:

  • Teach young people how to become life-long investors;
  • Expose teens to entrepreneurship;
  • Help parents encourage their children to become investors and entrepreneurs;
  • Help teachers expose their students to basic economic and business concepts.

Emmanuel Modu and Andrea Walker, the creators of this site, are the authors of three books about Teenvestors: Mad Cash: A First Timer's Guide to Investing $30 to $3,000 (Penguin/Perigee 2003); TeenVestor: The Practical Investment Guide for Teens and Their Parents (Penguin/Perigee 2002); and The Lemonade Stand: A Guide To Encouraging The Entrepreneur In Your Child (Gateway Publishers 1992).

We have spent the past 12 years writing about young people in business and teaching young people about investing and entrepreneurship. For several years, they ran a not-for-profit business camp, called Teen Business Camp, on the campuses of Rutgers University and The New Jersey Institute of Technology New. The camp was a labor of love for us since we took no payment for our effort and we spent our own personal time raising money from corporations and foundations to house students on the two university campuses for the annual two-week overnight program.

We have appeared on many television programs on CNBC and CNN Money, and in many publications such as The New York Daily News, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Morningstar.com, Money.com, BusinessWeek Online, and many other media outlets that appreciate our perspective on encouraging young investors and young entrepreneurs.

Emmanuel Modu’s honed his investing skills at Merrill Lynch as a Senior Treasury Analyst, at J.P. Morgan Chase as a Vice President, and at Citibank as a Vice President. He attended University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School after receiving his undergraduate degree from Princeton University.

Andrea Walker , the other co-author, is graduate of Princeton University, the George Washington School of Law, and Seton Hall Law school where she received her Master’s in Law. We are married to each other and we are raising our children to become Teenvestors.

These days, we spend a lot more time communicating with young people through our website, Teenvestor.com (www.teenvestor.com) -- the most comprehensive website for young investors. Whether on the Internet or in a classroom setting, we’ve discovered that young people have the capacity to learn about investing and entrepreneurship. More importantly, we’ve found ways to effectively communicate business concepts to young people. This website applies the techniques we’ve learned over the years to turn young people into Teenvestors.
